MENTAL ILLNESS DOESN'T NEED TO MEAN THE END OF YOUR CAREER.
Work to Recover is a not for profit organisation. We exist to help anyone in recovery from any form of mental illness find a route back to fulfilling, enjoyable and sustainable work.
Many people suffering from mental health issues find a fulfilling career impossible to sustain and their job often falls victim to their illness. Our goal is to change that.

WHAT WE DO
Based in Central London, our free programme offers practical and empathetic hands-on help to rebuild careers that have suffered as a result of mental illness.
We believe that work can be hugely helpful in assisting and maintaining recovery from a wide range of mental health issues. Fulfilling work can provide a bridge back to ‘normal life’ and be instrumental in rebuilding damaged confidence and self-esteem.
WHAT WE OFFER
The heart of the Work to Recover offering is a bespoke 6-week programme, designed with careful input from volunteer recruiters, hiring managers, career coaches, therapists and wellbeing practitioners.
The programme is generally delivered over a period of six, 1.5 hour long sessions, either in a group or 1:1 setting. However, everyone is unique, and so we will always tailor our approach to the needs of each individual we work with.
GETTING TO KNOW YOU
In the first of our six sessions together, we’ll work on identification of key strengths, specialist knowledge and transferable job skills. We’ll also examine personal drivers for purpose, ambition and happiness in work.
Our second session together involves you being given expert, hands on, tailored guidance on writing an effective CV that represents who you really are.
CONFIDENCE AT WORK
This session includes covering practical methodology to help you build a professional online profile that feels right for you. Working on building confidence and self-esteem in a professional setting.
Worry about the dreaded job interview can be a major blocker to career stability for many people. Session Four is a practical workshop devoted to successfully taking the fear out of job interviews.
Session Five sees us work together to organise a bespoke work placement for you with one of the Work to Recover partner employers. Our placements (which range in length from half a day to a week, dependant on what feels right for you) will give you a chance to put your skills to work in a professional setting, and help you start to build your own network of contacts.
Session Six involves the creation of a strategic, personalised career plan. After the culmination of the session, we’ll match you with a dedicated career mentor, to ensure you have access to ongoing, personalised support.
"It was a pleasure having Katie to spend a day with us at Bloom as part of the Work to Recover initiative. It’s good to be able to give something back to people who have been on a tough and often lonely journey and really need all the support they can get.
Business isn’t just about making profit, it’s about improving people’s lives too and as business owners, we should all remember that."
Without the support of our corporate partners, we couldn't do what we do. Whether helping us by offering work experience placements, referring people in need of help to us, sponsoring our programmes to enable us to continue our work, or just being on hand to offer advice and support, we're very proud to present just some of the brilliant companies we work with.
